Within a four block radius we have two elementary schools near our house. This year I transferred them over to the school that was only a block from our house in hopes that we can sometimes walk and not have to go through all of the car seat trouble three times a day. I had heard good things about the school and was excited. Until the day before school when I found out that only Ty had been assigned a classroom and Drew had not. So Monday morning I had to go in extra early and wait in line for 25 minutes with 40-50 other parents whose child's name had been left off the lists. They finally got him assigned to a class and Ty was 10 minutes late getting to his new class because there was only one of me. After that whole ordeal I was a little ticked. I went to a lot of work getting them transferred on the first day transfers were available and then they didn't even put him in a class!!?? So lucky, they both liked their teachers and class and Drew even had a kid from church in his class. Unfortunately, since the the new principle pretty much stinks so far at her job- both boys were put into classes that had like 35-40 kids. Ty luckily got to stay put. Unfortunately, Drew who doesn't do well with change, was moved to a new classroom AFTER THREE DAYS of school. AFTER three days of getting to know his teacher, making friends, getting to know the new routine. And to top it all off they put him in a 1st/2nd grade class and Drew says the teacher has to yell a lot at the older kids and he's extremely upset about being ripped from the one friend he already knew. I was so excited when he started because he already had a friend, he really liked his new teacher, and seemed as though he was off to a good start. He didn't really enjoy last year so I was excited for a fresh new start. Today was the fourth day and he called me from the office after lunch and told me his stomach really hurt and he needed to come home. I know why that kid's stomach hurt and he's not sick. It made me so angry at that stupid school. Hope that the year improves because so far I will not be returning my students to August Knodt again.
